Just interested if there are others here that enjoy Metal Mania. Comes on VH1 Classic at Midnight on Saturday - runs until 4am. They also have a two hour version that airs on Saturday morning at either 10 or 11. I'm usually busy doing family stuff on Saturday morning so I generally have to stay up to midnight to watch my videos.
However, I do have a complaint about the show. I've looked at the VH Classic message board and it doesn't appear that the folks at VH1 ever look at it.
Has anyone else noticed that they have a pretty limited play list? Every week I see the same videos. I believe that Ronnie James Dio cast some sort of spell on them that forces them to play Holy Diver every single week. With the vast catalog of videos that so many of these bands have, why limit yourself to the same one's every week?
It's 8:49am on Saturday April 12th. I can make a list of videos that will air tonight. You guys watch and see how correct I am.
Dio - Holy Diver Queensryche - I don't Believe In Love Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood KISS - I Love It Loud (they show far too much kiss) Lita Ford - Back to the Cave WASP - Blind in Texas Scorpions - Rock You Live a Hurricane, Nobody Like You Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Anyone else with thoughts on Metal Mania??

I watch it sometimes if Iam home.I don't tape it though they show the same videos all the time.Know with bands sites and youtube you can find any videos you want or get them from torrent sites like pirate bay or on DVDS.
The thing about Headbangers Ball was it was on when I was in Junior High and High School it went off the air when I was a senior in 95 and started in 87 when I was in 5 th grade.
Headbangers Ball was during when all this stuff was freash in music. It was a place to discover new bands and learn new stuff there was no internet and magazines accept for kerrang were way behind on news.
The thing I liked most about HBB that metal mania does not have were decent hosts.I liked the host even though some people did not. They need a host.
Most importantly interviews with bands and going out to there tours,Many bands got intoduced to the mass public on HBB.
The thing is not as many of these tours are going on and the ablums are be realeased cause its years later bands carrers are winding down and not that many quality new albums are coming out.
If vh1 own all MTV stuff and I think they do.They would probaly do way better just airing the best episodes of headbangers ball like the ones with guest and on the road shows.Iam pretty sure the ratings would go up and I would dvr it all the time and put it on dvds.
We need to start a mass internet movement.lol

Hey VH316! I watched the Saturday Morning Edition today. They already aired "No one like you". However I am quite sure that it will be in the rotation tonight. ( I am sick of this video thanks to metal mania)I totally agree with you they need a better rotation. I know they have obscure videos. I have seen several on their request show.

It seems like evrytime I put that show on, they're playing that video. I seem to have the same feeling towards that show, I get bored seeing the same videos over & over.

How could I forget "run to the hills" has anyone bothered to tell these guys that maiden made more than one video? Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that they have a limited play list.
That was the cool thing to me about HBB back in the day was the wide variety of videos they showed. Glam metal, thrash, traditional metal etc...it was all there. I've also noticed that Metal Mania tends to lean towards the early 80's a lot too. "Death Ally Driver" by Rainbow is another video they show the heck out of. I love Richie Blackmore as much as the next guy, but give me a break.
This is an awesome site, glad I found it and I look forward to getting to chat with you guys (and gals) for time to time.

Yeah they have not had a host forever. They just play videos.Eddie was layed off at the begining of 97.The got rid of all the vjs,They use that idiot Mark Goodman for stuff sometimes.I miss Eddie he knows about metal and is a fan.

Eddie Trunk is a corporate tool and a "yes man". He'll do anything VH1 will tell him to do. He was never a legitimate host of Metal Mania, only a host for special "events". Even when he was a host, he didn't decide on any of the videos that were played.
Anyway, I tired of Metal Mania about 4 years ago when they stopped adding new videos to the rotation. Like all of the others have said, the videos that they play are tired and worn out.

I guess the videos on Metal Mania would only be good now for young ones just getting into Metal or a way of discovering it.

I still enjoy metal mania is better then nothing. Its just not a must see where as back in the day HBB was for me.Also Iam 30 not in my teens so Iam not really discovering new music anymore, also our scene is not in its heydey. Many bands are done or are on reunions or if they still release music it is not up to par of what they did in the 70s,80s or 90s.Too me Headbangers Ball was much more then the videos thats why a host, guest,on the road shows, contests and going around the world too shows was such a cool part of that show.
