In my opinion, there are four eras of the ball:
First, is in the beginning through Kevin Seal hosting Second, Adam Curry hosting Then, the original Riki era Finally, the era with Riki when they changed the logo, started Countdown to the Ball, and played more alternative.
For me, I like Adam and the original Riki. I think in those years you found more obscure artists that weren't Billboard top 10 hard rock. Although Adam may not necessarily have been into all of the artists, (neither was Riki) we didn't care then if he was just reading a cue card. And Riki the same.
What was your favorite??

Adam was the first host I ever saw, and back in the day I preferred him over Riki. Rewatching the show now, I think Riki is my favorite because he was the most genuine. Kevin was a joke as a host, and often didn't even pretend to like the music. Adam on the other hand played his part very well, but in the end it was still just an act. Riki made a lot of mistakes and sometimes was even embarrassing to watch, but you knew he was doing it because he loved the music. Of course no one can be expected to like all the bands on the Ball (I certainly didn't). As for which "era" of Riki, that is definitely the earlier era, simply because that is where my taste in music lies.

Adam & the Original Riki era is my favourite eras. They were the best episodes for me, I didn't like it when they started playing more alternative stuff. The 80's hair metal and early 90's stuff was my favourite music on the show.
