Hi,
I have a quick question regarding the airing of the Ritz performance by Guns N' Roses in 1988. Looking at various tidbits of information here, it seems verified that Ritz was indeed aired on September 3, 1988, along with the Axl and Slash interview. The date has been verified by a member of the board from a commercial:
"I verified the GnR show date is correct. There is a commercial for a movie, moon over parador that premeired 9/9/88. The voiceover says starts friday at a theater near you."
Then again, there's people who says the Ritz gig was first aired late at night at HBB during the spring of 1988. One guy said he feels sure he saw the show on TV before seeing the band live in New York in May 1988, adding that he must've seen it during that spring, because he recalled seeing it at home - having moved away during the summer. He says that he remembers feeling psyched about the upcoming gig he was going to see, watching the original broadcast of Ritz.
GnR played the Video Music Awards in Sept that year, with the parts shown on the Sept broadcast likely being filmed in May 1988. Axl supposedly mentioned on some gig being interviewed by MTV the preceeding day. It would make sense that the show on HBB was in some way a warm up to the band's performance on the Video Music Awards.
So can anyone help here, does anyone know of any such prior airing of the Ritz gig?

It seems like I remember seeing the Ritz concert on MTV for the first time in early 1988, maybe in the spring of 1988. I've collected bootlegs for a long time and the Ritz show was always dated 2/2/88 by nearly everybody that had it. And if you check this out www.heretodaygonetohell.com/history/history88.php it seems to confirm the 2/2/88 date. I can't give a certain date that it was aired the first time but I wouldn't doubt that it was pretty soon after it was filmed. And I also remember the GN'R ritz concert being re-aired several times after the first time it aired, I remember taping it off of MTV at least two times back then myself, so I wouldn't doubt that MTV aired it many times including around September 88 that you mention. If you remember how hot Guns N' Roses was at the time, MTV probably couldn't wait to air that concert due to G N'R's popularity. And I'm sure they were happy to air it more for those who missed it the first time around and probably because of demand too.
